DAAD 2027
onSET for Egyptian students: DAAD deadline, test centres and preparation
If you are applying from Egypt for a DAAD master’s scholarship in a programme taught in German, you need proof of German before the deadline. Here are the deadline, the test centres and a plan for the weeks you have.
The deadline: around 15 November 2026
Several sites give 15 November 2026 as the deadline for 2027 DAAD master’s scholarships in Egypt. We could not confirm the date on the page of the DAAD office in Cairo, so check it there before you plan around it.
For programmes taught in German, the DAAD usually lists TestDaF, DSH, DSD, Goethe-Zertifikat, ÖSD, telc Deutsch and onSET Deutsch. The onSET takes about 40 minutes and the result is ready right after the test.
Where to take the onSET
Egypt: Goethe-Institut (Alexandria), Goethe-Institut (Cairo), Vivat Lingua! (Cairo), Ain Shams University (Cairo), Austrian Language Centre (Cairo), King Salman International University (Sharm el-Sheikh).
These names come from the official centre list (checked 6 October 2026). Each centre sets its own dates and fees. Book through the current list on onset.de and leave at least a week before the deadline.
What costs Arabic speakers points
Arabic has two grammatical genders and German has three, so the neuter (das) and every form that depends on it is a common source of mistakes. Learn every noun with its article, and remember that German gender often does not match meaning: das Mädchen, die Person, der Löffel.
Then there is word order, with the verb at the end of subordinate clauses, and the umlauts. An Arabic keyboard has no ä, ö, ü or ß, and “schoen” instead of “schön” earns no point. Ask the centre before the test how to type special characters.
Five weeks to mid-November
Week 1: a free C-Test as your baseline, then gender and articles. Week 2: cases and adjective endings, two or three texts a day. Week 3: verb forms, prepositions and subordinate clauses, with timed texts.
Week 4: move from a half simulation to two full simulations, and have your test centre date booked. Week 5: only your weakest topics, and rest the day before the test. The 30-day study plan sets this out day by day.
About onSET Prep
onSET Prep is an independent practice platform for German C-Tests. It is not a DAAD or TestDaF-Institut product, and practice scores do not predict an official CEFR level.
