Free DAAD onSET test in Brazil: dates and preparation
DAAD Brazil lets university students take the onSET for free, run by visiting German lecturers. The next dates are in São Paulo. Here is how to register and how to prepare.
Who can take it
The offer is for students at Brazilian universities, with priority for applicants to DAAD scholarship programmes. The test places your German on the Common European Framework; the DAAD gives A2 to C1.
2026 dates
According to DAAD Brazil, the tests take place at USP in São Paulo, with the next dates on 29 October, 19 November and 10 December 2026. Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro have no dates at the moment.
Other test centres in Brazil are on the official list at onset.de, where each centre sets its own dates and fees.
How to register
You ask for a place by email to the contact for your location. You then get a TAN for the online registration and more details. Without the online registration you cannot take the test, so do it right after the email.
How to prepare
The onSET is a C-Test: eight short texts with 20 gaps each, five minutes per text, no going back. Start with a free C-Test to see where you stand. There are just over three weeks to 29 October and six to 19 November: enough for the 14- or 30-day study plan.
On a Brazilian ABNT2 keyboard you type ä, ö and ü with Shift+6 (the trema) and then the vowel; ß has no key (Alt+0223 on Windows, Option+S on a Mac). Ask how the test centre handles special characters, because a missing umlaut earns no point.
About onSET Prep
onSET Prep is an independent practice platform for German C-Tests, based in Brazil. It is not a DAAD or TestDaF-Institut product, and practice scores do not predict an official CEFR level.
