DAAD 2027

DAAD 2027 deadlines: prove your German before you apply

If your master’s programme is taught in German, the DAAD asks for proof of German with your application, and onSET Deutsch is one of the accepted certificates. The deadlines below fall between 21 October and 16 November 2026, so plan your onSET date so the result arrives in time.

Official onSET list of test centres and dates

What the DAAD accepts

For programmes taught in German, the DAAD lists TestDaF, DSH, DSD, Goethe-Zertifikat, ÖSD, telc Deutsch and onSET Deutsch as usually eligible. Certificates should be no older than three years.

If your programme is taught in English, you prove English instead, and onSET Deutsch does not help there. Check the requirements of your programme and of your country’s DAAD office.

How the onSET works

onSET Deutsch is an online C-Test: eight short texts, 20 gaps each, five minutes per text. In every text the second half of every second word is missing, and the score from 0 to 160 is mapped to a CEFR level.

You take it at a licensed test centre, in Germany or abroad. It is quick to book, which is why many applicants use it close to a deadline.

A plan for the weeks you have left

  1. Week 1: take a free C-Test, read which grammar areas cost you points and start with the base lessons.
  2. Week 2: cases, articles and adjective endings, with two or three texts a day at your level.
  3. Week 3: verb forms and prepositions, texts with the five-minute timer, one half simulation.
  4. Week 4: two full simulations, review only your weak topics, rest the day before the test.
